West Contra Costa Literacy Coalition

"Literacy Coalition Presents: In School, on Track"

With seed funding from the Hellman Foundation and The California Endowment, the Richmond Community Foundation has established the West Contra Costa Literacy Coalition, consisting of likeminded stakeholders interested in supporting the Campaign for Grade Level Reading in West Contra Costa County. The Coalition desires to build out the framework to support academic achievement in literacy and the reduction of the achievement gap through: school readiness, school attendance, and out of school learning.

Our goal as a Coalition is to create and implement a comprehensive plan to ensure that all children read at grade level by 3rd grade.

"Literacy Coalition Presents: In School, on Track" is the 2nd in a series of convenings bringing together key stakeholders to strategize on how we, as a community can achieve our end goal of ensuring that all children read at grade level by 3rd grade.

Assemblymember Tony Thurmond is the featured speaker for this event. He will discuss his efforts to ensure that young students attend and succeed in school.

In addition, the event will bring together key stakeholders from the community: parents, teachers, principals, direct service providers, West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD), and WCCUSD School Board.

At this Convening, you will be able to:

  • Hear from Assemblymember Tony Thurmond
  • Learn and get updated on the West Contra Contra Unified School District's strategic plan on literacy
  • Learn the negative effects of early childhood absenteism
  • Hear success stories and strategize on how to best support young students in need
  • Network with other service providers in your field
  • Learn how to best support your child to succeed in school
